Review: Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

A stunningly beautiful story, Warprize is the first novel in the Chronicles of the Warlands, an astounding High Fantasy series by Elizabeth Vaughan.

Xylara (Lara) has been trained to be a healer and promised to aid any in need, but with her father, the Warrior King Xyron dead, and her incompetent half-brother on the throne, their kingdom is under siege from the Firelanders.

Going against her brother’s wishes, Lara upholds her vows and helps the captured and wounded Firelander warriors. After learning their language and customs to make them as comfortable as possible in their captivity, the last thing Lara expected was to be considered the key request in peace talks.

With the Firelander Warlord Keir of the Cat, demanding her in exchange for peace, will Lara choose her people or her freedom?

The culture and customs created in this novel help produce a realistic world and the charming and delightful characters make the novel impossible to put down as you try to discover if Keir will manage to win Lara’s heart as well as a peace between such opposite peoples.

An imaginative and alluring story, Warprize is one of my favourite novels, I recommend it for the older Young Adult reader (more towards the New Adult stage) and lovers of the High Fantasy genre.
