Review: Unearthed by Cecy Robson

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Even Death needs love."

Unearthed is the first book in the Death Seeker series by Cecy Robson.

Olivia Finn is just another Pixie trying to blend in among the humans and hide from the death hounds who killed and devoured her family.

Clinging to the talisman that keeps her hidden from those who hunt her she thinks she's safe… until Death finds her and discovers she’s immune to its grip.

Now Olivia's power is unearthed and she is sought by Fae who see her as their saviour, and stalked by dark beings who are compelled to destroy her.

Can she trust the King of the Dead who has sworn to train and protect her?

Or should she trust her instincts which warn her he desires more?

“If you escape a hound more than once, you become more than prey, you become an obsession. He’ll want you and not stop until he finds you.”

I was really looking forward to Unearthed and while I enjoyed it overall, I was a bit disappointed in it.

I'm a huge fan of Cecy Robson's books, although after reading Unearthed it occurred to me I've only really read and loved her contemporary novel's, so maybe I just can't get into her fantasy books?

That's not to say I didn't like Unearthed, like I said above, I did enjoy it.

I liked the characters and their chemistry, and I found the plot to be new and inventive, but I did find the book to be quite confusing. I deeply enjoyed the Urban Fantasy world Robson created, but unfortunately, I found myself quite lost at times.

The book starts almost right in the action with Olivia and her colleagues at the law firm being attacked by one of the death hounds and this is probably the part I found most confusing because very little had been explained or set up beforehand.

I did really enjoy the characters in this book, Olivia, Ryker, Dahlia, and Frankie and the others were all really well written and entertaining characters.

I also liked the way the relationship with Olivia and Ryker developed over time, it really wasn’t rushed and I did enjoy the angst.

“Since knowing you, I’ve started to see things in ways I’ve never dreamed possible.” His hand gives me a squeeze. “I’ve changed, Olivia. I don’t dare admit how much, but I have. You…you’ve given me purpose.”

I do recommend you check out Unearthed, which is out now, if you enjoy urban fantasy novels.
