‘“I won’t do it,” he repeated, sliding his thumb over my lower lip. I gasped. His head tilted as his hand slipped down my throat and over the bare skin of my shoulder…
“I too am capable of just about anything,” he said, voice thick and low. “And I will not let you get yourself killed.”
My eyes flew open, but the King was already gone.’
The King is book 3.6 in the Wicked Trilogy by Jennifer L Armentrout that follows the events of The Prince and is published as part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection.
As Caden and Brighton’s attraction grows despite the odds stacked against a happily ever after, they must work together to stop an Ancient fae from releasing the Queen, who wants nothing more than to see Caden become the evil Prince once feared by fae and mortals alike.
After how amazing The Prince was, I didn’t think it was possible for Jennifer L Armentrout to beat that but she really knocked it out of the park with The King.
‘There was hotness to his stare. A thick, predatory gleam to his eyes, and a challenge to the way his lips parted. A wild thought occurred to me. He wanted me to push him away, and he wanted to chase.
A deep, hidden part of me wanted to be hunted by him.
And that was so wrong.’
I absolutely loved everything about The King but most especially the explosive chemistry they shared, not to mention there was still enough antagonistic enemies to lovers’ vibes to keep it interesting and amusing,
‘It happened so fast.
One second, we were fighting. The next moment, it all changed. I didn’t protest as he lowered his mouth to mine, utterly unfazed by the iron at his throat. I didn’t say a word or pull away. Anger and frustration crashed into something far stronger, something rawer, and the moment his lips touched mine, I was lost.
He was no longer the King.
He was Caden.’
I have to be honest I am having trouble writing this review, mainly because I was so caught up reading The King that I kept forgetting to stop to take notes or highlight quotes, but also because I loved it so much I’m far to overwhelmed to put those feelings and thoughts into any coherent or intelligible format.
But I guess that says a lot about how phenomenal The King is.
The King is out now and will be followed by the final novella in the series, The Queen which will be due to be released July 2020.
