I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
“She was right and she was wrong. I wasn’t Nadia. I also wasn’t Evie. I had no idea who I really was.”
The Burning Shadow is the exciting and stunning second book in Jennifer L Armentrout’s Origin Series.
When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux- only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever could have suspected.
There are gaps in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is- and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more and more questions.
Her search brings her closer to Luc, the Origin at the centre of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful and extremely dangerous… and possibly in love with her. But is Luc’s attraction to her, or to the memory of a girl he used to know and who no longer exists?
All the while, a new threat looms: a flu-like, a fatal virus the government insists is being spread by Luxen, A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.
“Things between Luc and me were complicated, and it had nothing to do with the fact that I was a human and he was an Origin, and everything to do with who I used to be.
A girl Luc had loved and lost – a girl he still loved.
A girl who used to be me.
A girl I couldn’t remember no matter how hard I tried.”
Following on from the events of The Darkest Star, The Burning Shadow was a steamy, thrilling, and action-packed novel.
I was so excited to be able to read more about Evie and Luc, and I especially loved getting to see more about older characters from the original Lux Series.
The remarkably vivid world that JLA has created throughout the Lux Series and The Darkest Star continues, along with the strong character development and passionate chemistry between Luc and Evie.
“Because I’ve already waited forever for this - for you. I’ve done nothing but watch and wait, and I am not walking away again. If I kiss you, if I touch you again, I will not be able to go back to the way things are now.” The next breath he took trembled as much as I was. “I won’t be able to pretend that you aren’t my everything.”
I absolutely loved reading The Burning Shadow and cannot wait to read what’s to come.
