I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"A shock of awareness shot through me, followed by a feeling of déjà vu, as if I’d been here before, but that made no sense. This was the first time I’d seen Zayne. I would’ve remembered if I had seen him before."
Storm and Fury is the brilliant first book in Jennifer L Armentrout’s Harbinger series, and spin off of the Dark Elements Trilogy.
Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous she’s been hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens- gargoyle shapeshifters who protect the human populace from demons.
When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that someone is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes.
One of the outsiders is Zayne, one of the most annoying yet fascinating people Trinity has every met. But Zayne has secrets of his own. Secrets that will upend her world yet again.
To save her family and possibly the world, Trinity knows she has to put her trust in Zayne, but she will quickly discover that all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed.
“Are you done yet?” “I don’t know.” The slow, teasing grin both irritated and excited me, and the last emotion frustrated me even more. “Have I forgotten anything?” “Yes,” I snapped. “The one thing I was actually going to apologize for.” “Which was?” He was going to make me say it. Bastard. “For kissing you.” My face burned like an unholy fire. Zayne tilted his head to the side and a long moment passed. “That’s the one thing you don’t need to apologize for.”
I absolutely loved Jennifer L Armentrout’s Dark Elements series and have been dying to find out what happened to Zayne, so when I found out there would be a spin off series featuring him, I was just about over the moon.
I was so excited to have received and ARC of this novel and even more excited to say it did not disappoint.
I loved how strong and well written Trinity was, as well as just how sassy she could be. Not to mention the chemistry and sarcastic banter she and Zayne share will keep you entertained, swooning and laughing the entire novel.
“Not to mention, I’m bigger and stronger than you.” I gave him the kind of smile that irritated the Hell out of Misha. “Speed and intelligence will always prevail over strength and weight.” I paused. “Shouldn’t you know that?” His jaw hardened as he glared down at me. “I have a feeling you just insulted my intelligence.” “Never,” I demurred.
I’m totally in love with Jennifer’s writing and the urban fantasy worlds she can create with such realism that it almost makes you wonder if there is actually a clan of Wardens living in DC fighting to keep humans safe.
Storm and Fury is packed with Jennifer’s signature snarky characters with steamy chemistry and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
