Review: Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

I really enjoyed this book, and the entire series, I found it to be fresh, inventive and original.

Nightshade is the first novel in the series which features Calla Tor, a young Guardian (wolf shifters) for the Keepers (Powerful witches), Renier -Ren- Laroche, also a Guardian, and Shay; a not so ordinary human.

Calla is charged with the responsibility of watching Shay, a new student and relative of a very powerful Keeper, and despite her upcoming nuptials with Ren - the Young alpha for the Bane pack , finds herself drawn to Shay.

Calla is soon faced with the possibility that everything she has been told by the Keepers is wrong and must decide which side she will take in an up coming war.

Will she continue with the life that has been planned out for her; marry Ren, joining the Nightshade and Bane packs together and continue to serve the Keepers?

Or will she run with Shay and side with the Searchers, a fraction of the Keepers that broke away long ago, and live a free life?

This was a gripping and imaginative novel that I devoured in a day. I loved all the characters, and thought they were realistic and Cremer had me caring about their wellbeing- even the not so loveable ones.

The love triangle did grow tiresome towards the end of the series but I still enjoyed it a lot.
