This book was poorly written and was quite painful to read. It had me shaking my head the entire way through. I would not recommend it to anyone.
I had previously read the cats eye series and loved it so I decided I wanted to read more of this authors work... If I didn't know she had written this I never would have guessed it because both series are worlds apart. While the storyline itself had promise, the entirety of the novel was terrible.
The biggest issues I had with this book was the fact that the relationship between Maddy and Gareth was fairly abusive, I mean at one point he drags her along the ground by her hair after an argument.
Yeah I get the whole werewolves Are possessive and stuff but this was just too far, especially after Maddy grew up with an abusive father. Throughout the book Gareth promises to protect her and gets infuriated once he finds out that her father has been assaulting her, yet borders on abusive himself a lot of the time.
Not to mention the fairly unnecessary scene before the alpha fight where he hunts her through the warehouse despite her telling him that he was scaring her "he was enjoying this as much as she was dreading it."
And then the scene when Gareth becomes alpha and they have sex in front of the pack. There was so much wrong with this part. I've got to say in my opinion that was rape. Maddy said no, begged and pleaded with him to stop yet he ignored her, that is rape.
So when Maddy finally comes to her senses and leaves him we have them getting back together straight afterwards, all Gareth has to do is save her from her father, chase her through the woods and offer her a whole bunch of materialistic things, and promising her, despite the fact that he has screwed up and treated her like crap quite often, that he won't hurt her again. And despite Maddy herself saying he betrayed her, broke her trust and hurt her she forgives him.
But all in all it was not an enjoyable book.
